Julia Child - well actress Linda
Kenyon portraying Julia Child - shared stories of her life during a special
performance at the Warren Township Library.
A packed room laughed at "Julia's"
self-deprecating manner and engaging anecdotes of her life from her loving
marriage to her adventures during World War II and finally her experiences that
led to her helping shape modern American culture.
"She took the mystery out of
everything," said Warren resident JoAnn Ball, who has all of her books.
At the library, "Julia"
credited some of her success to good timing: she appeared on television just as
women were "coming out of their canned peas period." Among 19 books,
her most famous was the 1961 cookbook Mastering the Art of French Cooking. She
starred in 12 television series, the first being The French Chef.
Linda Kenyon's one-woman show as
Julia is part of The Senior's Theatre offerings. Kenyon, a Pennsylvania native,
has a host of credits including the Duchess of York in Richard III, narration
for Discovery Channel presentations including The Last of the Czars and as the
Dark Elf in the video game Morrowind.
The performance at the library was made
possible thanks to the generosity of the American Association of University Women.
