Super Storm Sandy Among Adult Programs at the Waren Township Library

From Super Storm Sandy to Amelia Earhart to Paranormal Tales, the Warren Township Library is offering a variety of adult programs this spring. These programs are free but require pre-registration, which can be easily done online or by calling the Adult Services at (908) 754-5554 ext. 64.

Here are just some of the interesting adult programs the library has to offer in March:

Superstorm 'Sandy' with Mark Di Ionno and Amy Ellis Nutt - March 9, 2 pm
decorative imageColumnist and author Mark Di Ionno and Pulitzer Prize winner Amy Ellis Nutt covered Super Storm Sandy for The Star-Ledger from the very beginning and are following its aftermath and reconstruction efforts, especially in the Jersey Shore area.  Learn about their experiences covering this devastating event in NJ history. Hear about the people they met along the way, how the Shore residents came together as a community and the assistance they received from unlikely sources, such as the Amish.This is a special opportunity to meet these award-winning journalists and appreciate their unique experiences "from the trenches." Thrills and Chills - New Paranormal Fiction - March 13, 7 pm
E.F. Watkins, author of recently released Dark Music (a haunted-house mystery), will discuss how vampires and werewolves have become romantic heroes and mysteries and thrillers feature ghosts and psychic detectives. How do you feel about this trend? Do you prefer down-to-earth plots or do you enjoy fiction that's out of this world? Get the chance to meet Watkins, a founding member of the Garden State Horror Writers and talk about spooky stories. You can register online or call (908) 754-5554 ext. 64.

Determined Spirit: The Story of Amelia Earhart - March 16, 2 pm
Actress and historian Monica Hoffman performs as Amelia Earhart performs in a one-woman show that reveals the life and legacy of the world’s most celebrated female aviator. "Amelia" will recall the events of her life from her earliest years until her infamous final flight. Audiences will meet the aviator America called “Lady Lindy” and discover a woman of integrity, humor, and inspiring courage. Hoffman has studied acting privately as well as at the prestigious Walnut Street Theater in Philadelphia. She has performed in local and regional theaters and her credits include commercials and independent film, including the 2010 documentary Breaking Through the Clouds: The First Women’s National Air Derby. Highlights of the Newark Museum - March 20, 7 pm
Get a taste of all the Newark Museum has to offer. Vera Lasser, presenter from the Newark Museum Speakers Bureau, will share the sacred and everyday objects of African art, Asian treasures, including a consecrated Tibetan altar, and ancient classical artifacts. Celtic Music Journey brings the audience to Heather Mulvey’s ancestral homeland through song. Her performance features familiar songs such as Wild Mountain Thyme, Danny Boy, and The Fields of Athenry. A brief history of each song is given and interaction and participation is encouraged.
 
Mulvey is a New Jersey based musician who plays finger-picking acoustic guitar and sings traditional Americana, Celtic and contemporary folk songs. You can register online or call (908) 754-5554 ext. 64.
